COMMUNITY PASTOR
I grew up in the church and finally understood what it meant that “Jesus died for my sins” when a local Traverse City church gave me a simple tract during one of their evangelism outings.  From there, I attended Hope College where I experienced God’s life changing power during a time of revival on campus in the 90’s.  It was here that I first sensed a call on my life to serve the Lord through ministry.  I owe everything to Jesus who has saved me from my sin and continually gives me the strength to live and serve him.
My family and I first came to Bayview in 2014 to see an old friend who was serving as Bayview’s children’s minister.   Our family fell in love with the people and ministry at Bayview and have worshiped here ever since.  In 2015 my wife Gretchen and I were asked to serve the church as co-youth pastors and after prayerful consideration we sensed God calling us back into vocational ministry.

Chris Emery

LEAD PASTOR

It’s all about Jesus and my passion is to see individuals discover who Christ is and who He wants to be in their life.  As God transforms lives, each person becomes a living, breathing beacon of His love and message.

I have served as a Pastor to students, young adults, and adults in both large and small church venues. I grew up in San Diego and have ministered from New York to North Carolina. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University and after spending 11 years in Student Ministries I became the founding pastor of Elevation, a coffee house church in Birmingham, AL. Elevation used its Coffee House setting to establish relationships with people on a daily basis. Relationships lead to exposing them to God’s Love and their journey begins. In 2010 Chris accepted a position at The Tabernacle in Buckley, MI as Teaching Pastor until the summer of 2016 when God lead us to Bayview. Bayview has a storied history of being a church that ministers to it’s community and changes lives. I believe our best days are still ahead and am excited to see what God has in store for us.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE PASTOR

I accepted Jesus into my life as a child and completely dedicated my life in 1958.  One scripture that has guided my life since I was in college is I Corinthians 12:31b “yet show I unto you a more excellent way.”  It has been a wonderful adventure seeing the “wonderful ways” that God has shown me!  My favorite verse is Proverbs 3:6:   In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.”   I wouldn’t want to face life without being a Child of God.
I was brought to Bayview as a 3-4 year old child and became a member as a teenager. I have attended Bayview all my life—and plan to continue to attend until I’m called to Heaven.   After 32 years of teaching at TCAPS, I felt called into the ministry.  In 2013, I was commissioned as a Licensed Minister of the Wesleyan Church.  Being the pastor of the senior population has become my area of service, which I thoroughly enjoy!  There is nothing like serving God and being in the center of His will.

WORSHIP & YOUTH
I was introduced to Jesus at an early age by a babysitter.   My brother and I were raised by many babysitters and various people in a small church in Perry, MI.  My mother played a large part in showing love to others less fortunate, showing us the hands and feet of Jesus at work.  Forgiving others, to include my father, allowed me to forgive and allow myself forgiveness.  This all started with Jesus, for “He loved us first.”  Choosing Jesus over feelings came into realization when I married my wife, Judith. I am blessed beyond imagination because of Jesus, and free to love because of Jesus.
Bayview was “another church” in TC until I found myself being led there through an opportunity working with the youth.  It was also a prayer of mine that Judith and I could do ministry together in a way that used both of our musical gifts and interest.  Serving alongside Judith as a worship leader has been a pretty sweet experience that also involves our daughter Selah from time to time.  We are thankful for this season, and the growth that is coming along with it.

WORSHIP & YOUTH

To me, Jesus is everything. He is the defining moment in History and the reason I breathe. I attempt to look at everything through a Christological lens and strive to be more like Him every day.

God called me into ministry in late high school. Since then, I’ve had a variety of opportunities of working within the church and also Para-church organizations. God placed Bayveiw on my heart and when the opportunity arose to join the staff, I went for it.

God’s love compels me to pursue more of Him. More Jesus leads to joy, peace and contentment in my life, my marriage and my family.
We visited Bayview once and knew that God had a plan for us here. We are passionate about facilitating ways for others to see Jesus. Whether in events, small groups, children’s church or international mission trips. Bayview has so much to offer our community and we are excited to be part of it!

Because we all have access to His love, no matter what.  We just need to accept it.

Originally, because it was my husband’s home church.  Now, because it has become mine.  I can be myself here with all my faults and quirks because God accepts us, so our church family does too.

I made my “Profession of Faith” at 15 years old at Highland Christian Reformed Church in Marion, MI. Our amazing Youth Leaders worked diligently each week and a lot of weekends to pour into the high school age group and it showed. Even though I have not been to church at Highland in 15 years, they brought me into a relationship with Jesus Christ as a teenager and I have remained close to God since no matter where I was living.
In 2009 we started attending Bayview every other week because my husband was playing with the worship band on Friday nights during the teen outreach nights and every other Sunday. Splitting our weekends between two churches wasn’t working that well for our kids so I made the decision to attend Bayview every week because of the friendly family feeling that we experienced every time we were here. I am so glad we did, my kids have grown up in the Bayview Kids Programs from nursery to Elevate Youth. My involvement with Bayview has grown immensely over the years; including nursery, VBS, Mom 2 Mom Sales, Craft Markets, Live Nativities and even working part time in the office starting in 2016. Bayview had become our 2nd family over the years and I have grown so much spiritually here.
